Hi all. It's time to kick off another set of blog posts for an adventure - this time it's two weeks through Europe - including London, The Netherlands, and Belgium with a combination of touring on our own and our first ever river cruise and Adventures by Disney trip!
I thought I’d take a moment to refresh our “Meet Your Hosts” post because, well a lot has changed.
We are Kara and Gayle. Gayle also happens to be a travel agent with an Authorized Disney Travel Planner agency - Off to Neverland Travel. I (Kara) often say that she’s such a good travel agent that I take her with me on all my trips.
We met on my (Kara’s) first day of freshman year of college. We’ve been nearly inseparable besties ever since. In college, we lived together in our college town (Muncie, IN) as well as in Indianapolis, IN.
Then, we went our separate ways after college with Gayle moving around to different parts of Indiana while I (Kara) took a giant U-Haul full of stuff to Lakeland Florida right after college before returning back to Indiana a year and a half later. We continued to live apart - with Gayle back in Muncie working at our alma mater and Kara in a combination of Richmond and Indianapolis.
While we lived apart, we took loads of trips together. Some of those include:
2006 Land & Sea (our first DCL - 4 night Bahamas)
2013 Gayle’s B-Day Cruise (Eastern Caribbean)
2018 West Coast Repositioning (Vancouver to San Diego)
2021 Return to Sailing (COVID 8 night Eastern-turned-Western)
In 2022, as we were taking some of those awesome trips, I (Kara) left my job of more than 20 years at the state’s community college and launched my own business. In 2023, Gayle retired from our Alma mater and moved to Indianapolis and took a job at Butler University. Our house search for Gayle turned into a house search for us. In July 2023, we bought The Bestie Bungalow - and then went away on a trip to Northern Europe for 10 days. Just after we both got moved in and started to settle, I (Kara) was diagnosed with Endometrial Cancer. After surgery, chemo and radiation, I’m now “in remission” and doing great. We’ll talk about why this trip is so special to my cancer journey in the next post - the Origin Story.
